Across Formats and Around the World, Beverage Cans Lead the Way in Recycling

Friday, November 3, 2017

Brand owners and consumers alike value beverage cans for their hallmark characteristics, including their convenience and their ability to keep contents fresher for longer. The format also truly embodies sustainability. Unlike other materials, metal is a permanent material that is 100% recyclable and can be continuously reused with absolutely no degradation in performance or quality.

The premium recycling status of the aluminum beverage can was validated in a recent study by Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), which named cans as the most recycled drinks package in the world. The analysis established a global weighted average recycling rate of 69% for aluminum cans compared to only 43% for PET containers.
