Water
Our most critical global resource—and yet our most strained.
Our most critical global resource—and yet our most strained.
As part of our role as a major manufacturer with corporate responsibility, we are committed to safeguarding the shrinking water supply in various regions around the world. Water is not only critical for supporting local ecosystems and preserving biodiversity, but also for providing safe, clean drinking water to entire populations and to nurturing critical agriculture. By improving water efficiency in our operations and by focusing on water replenishment, we help to bolster the availability of such a precious resource and to protect the future of diverse environments and communities.

Kickstarted in 2024, our third water replenishment project centers around the Colorado River Delta, aiming to secure sustainable water sources for both people and nature while creating water savings for instream flow restoration. Created in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and set near our Ensenada, Mexico plant, this project intends to bolster critical water supply to the stressed and growing Baja California region.
The first of our watershed replenishment efforts focused on the São Paulo Water Fund conservation project through a three-year collaboration with The Nature Conservancy and other partners. Now completed, this initiative aimed to enhance water security for the threatened Jundiaà Mirim Watershed, crucial to the water supply for our Cabreúva facility and the larger Piracicaba, Capivari, Jundiai (PCJ) basin serving over 10 million people.
We established our second replenishment project near our Korinthos, Greece facility in partnership with the Global Water Partnership–Mediterranean. Focused on technical changes, this initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the municipality’s water treatment plant through measures such as recirculating and re-treating filter backwash water. Completied in 2024, the project improves community access to safe, clean water, as well as preserves the water basin that serves our local plant.
Awareness that the global water supply is at risk informed Goal #9 in our Twentyby30â„¢ sustainability program: To replenish 100% of water consumed from high-stressed watersheds back to those watersheds. This target includes steps to:
Today, we are leading water replenishment efforts in several areas of the world and continue to explore new project sites. The goal? Balance our operations’ water consumption levels and improve the quality of watersheds and water basins wherever we are able.
